Short Celosia

Short Celosia

Celosia (Celosia argentea) is a striking plant known for its vibrant, feathery flowers. These flowers come in bright colors like red, orange, yellow, pink, and purple. Depending on the variety, Celosia can be compact for edging or larger for borders. It blooms from late spring through fall, attracting pollinators. While mostly grown for its flowers, Celosia is also edible—the leaves, tender stems, and young flower spikes can be boiled or cooked. Plus, it’s non-toxic to humans and pets!

Care

Sunlight: Provide Celosia with at least six to eight hours of sunlight.

  • Well-Drained Soil: Use well-drained, sandy soil.

  • Watering: Water infrequently, as Celosia prefers drier soil.

  • Pruning: Prune as needed.

  • Winter Care: Bring potted Celosia indoors during cold weather.

  • Fertilizing: Celosia doesn’t need regular fertilization.

  • Moisture: Keep the soil uniformly moist, allowing it to dry out between waterings.

  • Mulching: Mulch around the shrubs to insulate them in winter, but avoid the crown to prevent rotting.
